Wisconsin Vacation Rentals – Wisconsin Travel

What could be better than cheese, beer and football? Where can you find this enticing combination? Wisconsin, of course. Here, you can visit the Miller Brewing Company, take a self-guided tour at the Carr Valley Cheese Company and visit the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame and Lambeau Field.

Southern Wisconsin

This area of Wisconsin feels more large-city than the rest of Wisconsin and features some resort areas. Madison, the capital of Wisconsin, features a state capitol building that is reminiscent of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. while Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. Madison is known within the outdoor community as an excellent place for cycling and paddling. Milwaukee, meanwhile, celebrates its diverse culture though many festivals, and is lauded for its Quadracci Pavilion and Burke Brise Soleil at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Unique shops, intriguing nightlife, top-quality restaurants and brewpubs and art displays mark the downtown Riverwalk. The Wisconsin Dells brings in millions of visitors annually to its family-oriented destination. Here, nature rules with more than seven miles of the Wisconsin River, various tall rock formations, and Cambrian Sandstone Cliffs. Known as "America's Waterpark Capital" the Wisconsin Dells has a multitude of recreational and outdoors activities.

Northern Wisconsin

Two of the great lakes -- Superior and Michigan -- are touched by the northern area of Wisconsin, and the terrain here is of pine forests. Lake Superior is known as a deep-water harbor that has excellent fishing and a sandbar known for its superior bird watching. Bayfield is a port town off Lake Superior that swells with sailing, charter fishing and Victorian mansions. The Cable area, known for its beautiful scenery through each of the four seasons, is the co-host with Hayward of the internationally-famous American Birkebeiner cross-country skiing event, while the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore features 22 islands with attractions like sea caves and lighthouses. The ojibwe (also known as Chippewa) culture benefits the Lac du Flambeau area, while Eagle River is on a chain of 28 freshwater lakes that teem with fish. Its Main Street has a small town feel with ice cream parlors and candy shops lining its streets. Lakewood's strong lumberjack heritage is displayed at the restored Holt & Balcom Logging Camp.

Central Wisconsin

Although this area juxtaposes small communities and busy areas of industry, it all comes together with a Midwest charm. Wisconsin Rapids has history relating to the paper and cranberry industries and tours are available at Glacial Lake Cranberries and the Stora Enso North American Complex. The Mitchell Public Square-Main Street Historic District is made up of more than 60 buildings in Stevens Point. Oshkosh is a smaller are that feels like a large metropolitan area, thanks to its first-rate museums, boat cruises, performing arts programs, and top-notch dining. Menomonie is a haven for antiques shoppers, while gaming and ATV riding are popular in the Black River Falls area. The family-owned (since 1867) Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company is a center of Chippewa Fall's downtown area, along with its interesting architecture.

Lakeside Park calls Fond du Lac home, and here there are historic lighthouses and carousels. The beloved Green Bay Packers are the only community-owned NFL team and they call Green Bay -- the oldest settlement of French fur traders -- home. Green Bay also has a number of performing arts shows, museums and gaming opportunities.

Other sites to see and things to do in Wisconsin include: "Talking Houses and Historic Places" a self-guided tour in Fond du Lac; Harley-Davidson, Inc.; Timm House in New Holstein; Hinchley Dairy Farm tours in Cambridge; Cana Island Lighthouse in Baileys Harbor; First Capitol Historic Site in Belmont; Sailing/yachting charters in Lake Superior and Lake Michigan; and historic walking tours of Ripon.
